Psy Releases New Single: The New Viral Dance Video and Why South Koreans May Not Be a Big Fan

South Korean singer, songwriter and Gangnam Style connoisseur has released his new single titled ‘Gentlemen’ last week. ‘Gentlemen’ have also generated more than 100 million views just after 3 days on YouTube compared to ‘Gangnam Style’ that reached 100 million viewers in 44 days. Before releasing his track online, Psy performed his new single at the Seoul World Cup stadium during his ‘Happening’ concert which was streamed worldwide live by Youtube. The music video however, was banned from South Korea’s government funded broadcast station, KBS. KBS claimed that the video showed Psy abusing public property in South Korea, in which the opening sequence of the music video, the rapper kicks a traffic cone that says “No parking” before laughing riotously and pointing to the camera.

‘Gangnam Style’ has stirred dance frenzies among viewers around the world with parodies made and posted on social networking websites. Could his new single be the start of a new dance phenomenon? And with ‘Gangnam Style’ fetching more than 1 billion views on Youtube, is it possible that Psy breaks the record with this new single despite having restrictions in his own native country?

Zombies in Malaysia: Why Star Wars Director, Roger Christian Wants Malaysia as the Next Location for His New Flick

Oscar nominee Roger Christian has voiced his interest in using Malaysia as his location for his upcoming zombie flick, titled the ‘Temple of the Undead’.

The famed Star Wars and Ridley Scott’s ‘Alien’ art director voiced his interest after visiting the Digital Mix Stage Studio at National Film Development Corporation of Malaysia (FINAS) last month. Roger Christian’s planned trip to Malaysia acts as one of his effort for a corporate film project with the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and at the same time to attract investors to the country.

According to Roger, the film would be 100 percent filmed and produced in Malaysia. “We will be using Malaysian actors, locations and special effects, it will be much more tribal with battles in the jungle with head hunters. I want my zombies to be different,”” he said during the meeting with the press.
So, a film with zombies and headhunters here in Malaysia, sounds interesting enough doesn’t it?

Coreng: A Solo Exhibition by Fauzul Yusri

Coreng
A solo exhibition by Fauzulyusri
TAKSU Kuala Lumpur, 28 March 2013 – 18 April 2013

TAKSU Kuala Lumpur is honored to present Coreng, a solo exhibition by Fauzulyusri from Malaysia. 'Coreng' is Malay for mottle, which is the action of marking with spots or smears of colour. Fauzulyusri returns with this theme, and yet again he takes a bold stand in both form and matter. He thin-sliced each work with a message that balances brightly strong hues of colours, leaving one with an immediate and lasting impression, which gives one the courage to decipher the true hidden meaning of what may initially seem like a naïve work, but captured in bold strikes of brush strokes, layers and forms. The artworks in the Coreng series took Fauzul a year to complete as he took time to mature the work over matter and the substances. He plays and correlates with the idea that perfection is overrated, and yet needed in todayʼs dynamics.

With all this said, this collection of work stands firm that there is beauty in themes of daily life and power over minor and small formations. His work compels one to think beyond romanticism, to see the richness in the basics and in the given innate imperfections.

Opening reception on Thursday, 28 March 2013, 7.30 – 10.30pm.
