Damansara Performing Arts Centre (DPAC) presents AMBOI! BABA MEETS NYONYA,celebrating its first performing arts festival inspired by the illustrious story of peranakan culture.
The word peranakan in Malay simply means ‘locally born’ and is the region’s most fascinating hybrid culture, descended from unions between foreign merchants (China) with local women. This month-long festival aims to capture the essense of locally born works which makes Malaysia, a meeting point, known for its melting pot of cultures.
This year, DPAC festival team is proud to highlight some of our nations prominent art practitioners from various performance practices in theatre, media, visual art and dance as well as guest speakers from academic, media and business. There will be various talks, exhibitions and performances programmed weekly between April 3-27.
DPAC dedicates itself to nurturing Malaysia’s unique performing arts scene and aims to further enhance public awareness on the importance of art-forms which not only enriches our lives but capable of shaping our nation. DPAC is a corporate social responsibility initiative towards the development of Arts & Culture in Malaysia by Mammoth Empire Holdings Sdn. Bhd.
